CCR- Music Video Project

Creative Critical Reflection How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  - My product is a music video to "Six Feet Apart" by Alec Benjamin. My product breaks the conventions of a pop music video. Most pop videos have a lot of color in them, representing happiness and cheer. I think this video disbands that idea. People in society start to feel anxious and panicked when everyone nut the is happy. This can severely damage a person physically and mentally. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?     -My product would be distributed through YouTube or Instagram IGTV. I would aim it for audiences who can relate. Sometimes, it is hard to be alone. Whether it is you feel worthless or paranoid or even overwhelmed by the silence. My goal is to make all of those people feel seen.   3.       How did your production skills develop throughout this project

Filming Blog (Official)

I had a lot of fun. There were points where I truly wanted to give up on this because of me not executing a certain shot the way I wanted to or my acting not being on point. My main focus while filming was to make it clear. To not confuse my viewers. By making sure every scene was don how I wanted, my result came out a little shaky, but nice. There were many impulsive decisions made when it came to filming. I had a close friend of mine play the role of the other subject on camera. To connect the storyline and make it realistic, I had to somewhat make it apply to me in someway. Even though I was in front of the camera for a fair portion of the film, I directed those who helped film verbally. I gave examples of what I meant when I would say a "wide shot" or following, even though those are two very commonly known choices directors make, there were others. If not shot by myself, my sister would assist me. For filming, I used my phone, which is an iPhone 6s. For a few clips, I u

Editing Blog

Editing was something crazy. This was my first music video production, and man was it quite difficult. Editing scenes to make sure they fit the song was probably the hardest part for me. It was hard to determine whether or not I filmed enough in order for me to edit the video for as long as it needed to be. For the storyline, I edited in videos that were supposed to be “old memories” then put an older filter on them. I also applied certain transitions in order for them to look like a flashback. I used the iMovie app to edit then played the song over the video by using iTunes. It was a little hard for me since I never had an iTunes. That required me to go through the whole process of getting a trial and paying for it so that the song could be matched up with the video. That was a difficult process itself for no reason. During editing, I could see my seconds adding up quickly. However, I had gotten to the clips that I desperately wanted to keep and thought were necessary, so I tried my b

This was something new. Filming a music video is so much more difficult than releasing an actual film production. So much needs to be put across to viewers. I did not film until this week due to the holidays. Spending time with family can tire a person out.  Between spending time with family and planning out this project, it was hard to film. The days I scheduled for filming were weekends, but being that I had other work to do, as well as planning, I was not able to film on the weekend nor during the week. Instead, I gave myself a break and tended to other activities. The few days were spent assisting my step-mom in cooking and shopping for my own food to cook. The night Christmas Eve, my family would hang up the lights around the house then once it hits about 9 or 10 p.m., we would turn off all of the lights and dance around in the living room with only the Christmas lights on. Once morning came around, we made breakfast while listening to Christmas music. After presents, there were m

Planning for my Music Video

The song I chose is called Six Feet Apart by Alec Benjamin. Props I will be using are mainly jackets. In moments where you are in shock or in a time of despair, jackets are always used as something to trigger warmth and comfort within you. With the concept of this video, I felt jackets/hoodies were appropriate because we teens find it "trendy" to be in sweats and completely comfortable. Also, I use it as a silent sign of sadness. That maybe the characters in the video are in need of the comfort the hoodie grants.  The costumes used in this video are nothing but casual wear being the fact my video is revolved around the subjects being at home. The schedule is from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. I need pure daylight for my shots aside from the ones that are to be taken inside. Time after that would be used for other elements of the project like editing and different ideas that come up. I will be using my home as my setting. Mainly, it will be my bedroom, kitchen, and my street

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
The genre of the song I chose, Six Feet Apart by Alec Benjamin, is Pop. Music video conventions of any genre are in the categories of style, type of camera, sound effects used, variety of editing software and techniques, transitions, etc. Being as big of a genre as it is, there are plenty of different executions to these types of music videos. Usually, in pop music videos, there is a colorful and bright aesthetic. Whether the color is captured from a smoke bomb, fireworks, or the clothing on the artist and or their companions in the video, color is a big aspect when it comes to pop videos. Often, for costumes, the artist may be wearing a different color from anyone else in the video. This gives the impression that they are the star of the production. On the other hand, there can be casual clothing or slightly sexual to appeal to audiences. The main premise is to sell the song and role being played. The performances in these videos are either the artist dancing along with background da

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For this project, I will be creating a music video. I have decided to work by myself on this project. I have found that I work at a better pace by myself and am understanding of my limits. Besides, my ideas are often scattered and something usually only I understand fully. I am also pretty indecisive when it comes to creating so I think I am just better off working on my own.  The name of the song I chose is 'Six Feet Apart' by Alec Benjamin. Alec Benjamin is a male pop/indie artist that creates music about mental health and relatable things that people might be going through. I chose this song because I feel that it is an important element of quarantine to address. A significant issue during quarantine is the feeling of being alone or missing the people you love. This topic, although common, I feel is highly overlooked as to others, feelings like these may be seen as not a big deal. This song is relevant to society today because of COVID-19. People who have not been able to be
