Editing Blog

Editing was something crazy. This was my first music video production, and man was it quite difficult. Editing scenes to make sure they fit the song was probably the hardest part for me. It was hard to determine whether or not I filmed enough in order for me to edit the video for as long as it needed to be. For the storyline, I edited in videos that were supposed to be “old memories” then put an older filter on them. I also applied certain transitions in order for them to look like a flashback. I used the iMovie app to edit then played the song over the video by using iTunes. It was a little hard for me since I never had an iTunes. That required me to go through the whole process of getting a trial and paying for it so that the song could be matched up with the video. That was a difficult process itself for no reason.

During editing, I could see my seconds adding up quickly. However, I had gotten to the clips that I desperately wanted to keep and thought were necessary, so I tried my best to narrow them down to where I only had the action taking place and maybe camera movements that I felt were necessary. Each clip ranged from five to ten seconds. For transitions, they were quick and fast, never slow even though that was the initial plan. A lot of my original plans changed during the stages of filming and editing. Once it got down to the wire of the video being over a minute, I really had to decide what I wanted in the video. Ultimately, I think this video turned out pretty okay. I am definitely in need of some lessons on executing my editing skills. This was a fun experience. Hopefully, I can do it again and better next time.
