Filming Blog

Filming Blog        As mentioned in earlier blogs, filming took place inside my home. Filming took place on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. I knew that since I was the only one in the commercial, it would be simpler to finish. That also came with its disadvantages though. For certain shots, specifically in the 1 st , 2 nd , and 7 th scenes, I needed someone else to hold the camera since I was the subject of the film. However, somehow, I made it work perfectly by sing objects around my house like shelves or chairs with wheels. The main difficulty I had was quiet on set. My dog continuously would bark or squeak his chew toy. I resulted to closing multiple doors to drown out his noises and keep him in one place for the small duration of time. Another mild difficulty I had was lighting. There were times where the brightness would be too high on the camera so it would not be compatible with the lighting of the room, or the lighting was so low that it made the camera quality worse. I had to se

Storyboard Blog * Each scene will include music in the background. Scene 1: The commercial will open with the subject(me) peacefully asleep, a slow pan in. Scene 2: I am abruptly awoken by the alarm going off on the phone. Scene 3: Shot on phone alarm going off and it being dismissed. Scene 4: I will rush to the bathroom: opening shot being the camera in the mirror then I would open it to reveal myself. Scene 5: I reach beside the camera to grab the KISS product then apply it to eyelashes. Scene 6: Mascara will sit on table while I talk about advantages such as “more volume”, “make your lashes fuller” and “feel glamorous”. Scene 7: There will be a top shot of the laptop. The significance of the laptop is to show the circumstances the world is under right now, being in quarantine. Due to quarantine, school is to be attended online for a safer route to education. Scene 8: The laptop will be opened and display the “Bring the Salon Home: KISS” sign. It will be similar t

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions and Codes

Research: Commercial Conventions and Codes   I am doing a KISS commercial. In KISS commercials, the audience often sees people participating in activities like modelling and scattered themes of a daily morning routine.           In these commercials, they wear heels, dresses, tight-fitted shirts, dressy casual outfits, nice blouses, and jeans.         Props would include KISS mascara, KISS eyeshadow, lipsticks, eyeliners, and more, all from that production line. If not, only one product will be displayed in the commercial.      Their appearance is happy and cheerful, ready for what comes in their day, or serious expressions to emphasize the effect of the cosmetics.     In terms of audio, cosmetic commercials USUALLY have an upbeat tune playing in the background. It varies from the instrumental of a well-known song or it might alternate to an almost jazz-like song for voguing. Conventions and Codes in KISS commercials include their logo and slogan “Bring the Salon Home: KISS” at the e

Planning Blog Props included: Because I have decided to produce a KISS commercial, the main props being used would be makeup products like, mascara and eyeshadow. Props featured would be a laptop, a hoodie, a cellphone. Costumes: There is one person as the subject in this commercial. In makeup commercials, there is either formal or casual clothing being worn. For example, for a formal setting there would be a sultry red dress worn for sex appeal or for the message to get across that the woman is an adult. In this case, the subject would be wearing a t-shirt along with comfortable, yet casual pants along with a hoodie. Schedule: On 11/1/20, I will research the conventions and codes of a makeup product commercial. On 11/1/2020, I will determine the props, schedule, costumes, location list, and backup plan. On 11/3/2020, I will create the storyboard for my 30-second commercial. On 11/3/2020, I will also film and record the needed shots for the commercial. On 11/4/202
