CCR- Commercial

Creative Critical Reflection

  • How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
-My product was a commercial for KISS cosmetics. From mascara to nails, I was able to present beauty products for any generation to use to enhance their beauty. These types of commercials can be uplifting as well as down putting to viewers. In modern times, society has built women to love makeup. Many use it to hide their insecurities rather than embrace their flaws and use makeup as an art. But what about those who don’t use makeup? They are seen as unladylike or lazy and are immediately declared as a tomboy. Then for men, if they wear makeup, they are instantly labeled as gay instead of society just accepting makeup as an art. Overall, this product can inspire yet destroy societal beliefs.
  • How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
-My product would be distributed as an ad on Instagram and YouTube. With most of my targeted generations on those social platforms, I would have my product displayed there. The age range for my product is around 14 to mid 50s and I feel that those two places are where most attention is today. Also, of course, my product would have its own commercials on cable television. I would cast them on channels like FOX, TeenNick, Freeform, and other channels that families would watch.
  • How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
-Throughout this project, I came to realize how well it challenged my skills as a director, producer, and editor. From the first project to now, I could see a few improvements in my skill. In this process, I was able to create smoother edits and work smarter when it came to shortening the clips I filmed. I was able determine what I felt was most important to put in the final product. This project really tested my prioritizing skills.
  • How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
-Since I was not the most skilled when it came to using iMovie, I used photo editing apps like PicsArt and PicCollage to find transitions and textual effects I could use for the production. I also used the Paint software on my PC to sketch out my storyboard before putting it onto paper. The internet was simply used for research purposes. This took part in how I would deliver the slogan and the structure of the commercial.
